Skyler Philippi, a Tennessee man allegedly motivated by white supremacist beliefs, was charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction in a plot to bomb a Nashville energy facility.

Philippi, arrested shortly before attempting a drone attack on an electric substation, aimed to cause a major power outage days before the U.S. presidential election.

He had discussed previous power grid attacks and was working with undercover FBI agents who had compromised his plot, CNN has reported.

The Department of Justice and FBI have increased focus on threats to critical infrastructure linked to extremist motives.
