A Florida man, 61-year-old Kevin Elliot McCourt, died in a pedestrian crash on I-95 North in Rhode Island early Wednesday.

McCourt had stopped his car on I-95 South, exited his vehicle, crossed the highway, and was struck by a Volkswagen SUV while attempting to cross I-95 North.

Another crash on the southbound side caused traffic delays.

An NBC 10 crew reported seeing cash on the road, which sparked local curiosity, though authorities have not confirmed if the crashes were connected or how the money ended up on the highway, WJAR 10 NBC has reported.

Both sides of the highway were cleared by 7:00 a.m.
