Nathan Hochman, Los Angeles’ newly elected district attorney, promises a tougher stance on crime and aims to rebuild an office disillusioned by the policies of his predecessor, George Gascón.
Hochman, a former prosecutor and defense attorney, won on a platform criticizing Gascón’s progressive policies, especially around property crimes.
While advocating for stronger prosecution of property offenses, Hochman emphasized he’s not opposed to criminal justice reform but wants to focus on public safety and restore confidence in the DA’s office.
Gascón, who implemented reforms like ending cash bail and halting sentencing enhancements, conceded defeat, citing the shift toward conservative policies, Politico has reported.
Hochman has vowed to scale up efforts against police misconduct while balancing tougher penalties with criminal justice reform.
