South Korean president sorry for controversies surrounding wife

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol apologized for controversies surrounding his wife, Kim Keon Hee, including allegations of accepting a luxury Dior handbag and stock manipulation.

Yoon admitted that Kim should have behaved better but argued that her portrayal had been exaggerated.

He announced plans to create an office to oversee her official duties but rejected calls for an investigation.

The apology comes as Yoon faces a decline in popularity due to these scandals, including a leaked video showing Kim accepting the handbag, the BBC has reported.

The opposition has also accused her of stock manipulation, but Yoon previously vetoed a bill calling for an investigation.
