Northrop Grumman eyes 2026 launch of robot-armed satellite servicer

Northrop Grumman’s SpaceLogistics subsidiary plans to launch its next-generation satellite servicing vehicle, the Mission Robotic Vehicle (MRV), in 2026.

Equipped with robotic arms developed by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, the MRV will extend the life of satellites in geostationary orbit by adding propulsion systems known as Mission Extension Pods (MEPs).

SpaceLogistics has secured three customers for the service, including Intelsat and Optus.

The MRV will perform tasks like satellite repairs and relocations, Space News has reported.

The mission aims to reduce costs for satellite operators and support satellite servicing, positioning Northrop Grumman as a leader in the growing space-servicing market.
