A 28-year-old South Korean man was arrested at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Peru for attempting to smuggle 320 tarantulas, 110 centipedes, and nine bullet ants.
Authorities discovered the animals strapped to his body in packages, after noticing his swollen abdomen.
The creatures were reportedly sourced illegally, contributing to the global wildlife trafficking trade, which impacts thousands of species and generates millions of dollars annually, The Hill has reported.
An investigation is underway, and officials highlighted the environmental and societal harm caused by wildlife crimes.
