Vladimir Putin tested Russia’s new hypersonic missile, the “Oreshnik,” by firing it at Ukraine, citing retaliation for British and American long-range weapons supplied to Kyiv.
In a televised address, Putin labeled Britain a legitimate military target and lowered Russia’s nuclear response threshold.
The missile was part of a larger strike on Ukraine’s military facilities, with Dnipro being hit, injuring two people.
Ukrainian President Zelensky condemned Russia for using Ukraine as a missile testing site, while NATO’s missile defense base in Poland was also declared a Russian “priority target,” The Telegraph has reported.
The frontline in eastern Ukraine remains unstable as Russian forces intensify attacks ahead of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, with Trump signaling intentions to push for a peace deal.
