Susan Lorincz was sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally shooting her neighbor, Ajike “AJ” Owens, through a locked door in Ocala, Florida, on June 2, 2023.

Lorincz was convicted of first-degree felony manslaughter with a firearm in August.

The judge called the shooting unnecessary, noting that Lorincz was safe in her room and could have waited for law enforcement.

Owens, a Black mother of four, had approached Lorincz’s door after a dispute over children playing nearby.

Lorincz expressed sorrow but was criticized by Owens’ family for a lack of sincere remorse, ABC News has reported.

Owens’ mother said the pain from the loss would last a lifetime.
