Pennsylvania grandmother who fell down sinkhole looking for cat found dead after 4-day search

The body of Elizabeth Pollard, a 64-year-old Pennsylvania grandmother who fell into a sinkhole while searching for her cat, was found 30 feet below the surface after a days-long search.

Pollard, missing since Monday in Unity Township, fell into a decades-old mine shaft.

Rescuers shifted from a rescue to recovery effort on Wednesday.

Her body was recovered after over 80 hours of searching, bringing closure to her family.

Authorities found her car nearby with her 5-year-old granddaughter, who was unharmed despite freezing temperatures, NBC News has reported.

Engineers will now secure the area to prevent future sinkhole incidents.
