A small plane crashed onto I-684 near Westchester County Airport on Thursday evening, leaving one person dead and another critically injured.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. near Greenwich, Connecticut, just over the New York border.
The pilot had reported engine problems and was attempting to land at the airport when the plane went down on the highway.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed the engine failure and are investigating the incident.
The highway was shut down between exits 2 and 3 for an extended period as police and federal officials responded, NBC 4 has reported.
The identities of the victims have not been released, and NTSB investigators are expected to arrive on Friday to continue the investigation.
