Donald Trump has appointed Kari Lake, a former Arizona gubernatorial and Senate candidate, as the new director of Voice of America (VOA).
Lake, a staunch immigration hard-liner and vocal critic of the media, built a loyal following with her controversial views, including spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and election fraud.
In a Truth Social post, Trump praised Lake for her commitment to promoting American values through VOA, which provides independent news globally.
Trump, a past critic of VOA, previously considered Lake as a potential vice presidential candidate, the Telegraph has reported.
The broadcaster, funded by Congress, maintains its mission of delivering unbiased reporting despite political pressures.
