Luigi Mangione, accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City, has hired prominent attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo to replace his initial lawyer.
Friedman Agnifilo, a former assistant district attorney with extensive experience in New York’s court system, previously worked on the Harvey Weinstein case.
Mangione, 26, was arrested in Pennsylvania after a five-day manhunt.
He is accused of shooting Thompson outside a hotel on December 4.
Mangione’s manifesto, found with him, criticizes the healthcare system and justifies the murder as a response to corporate greed, the Daily Mail has reported.
New York officials are seeking his extradition, but the process may take over a month.
