Fan, angered by his divorce settlement, pleaded guilty to endangering public safety.

The court described his actions as cruel and causing severe social harm.

The attack, part of a recent surge in mass killings, prompted Chinese leader Xi Jinping to urge measures to prevent similar incidents, the Associated Press has reported.

Authorities have tightened control over information on such attacks, censoring social media and limiting public details.
