The Taliban’s supreme leader has ordered a ban on residential windows overlooking areas where Afghan women might be seen, such as courtyards and kitchens, citing concerns about “obscene acts.”
Existing windows must be blocked, and authorities will monitor compliance.
Since regaining power in 2021, the Taliban have imposed severe restrictions on women, including bans on education, employment, and public spaces, and prohibitions on women singing or speaking publicly, France 24 has reported.
The United Nations has condemned these measures as “gender apartheid.”
