Morgan Geyser, the Wisconsin woman who, at age 12, stabbed her classmate to please the fictional Slender Man, will be released from a psychiatric hospital after a judge determined she has made significant progress in her treatment.

Geyser, now 22, has spent nearly seven years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. Experts testified that she no longer poses a public safety risk.

In 2014, Geyser and Anissa Weier lured Payton Leutner into a park and stabbed her 19 times.

Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree homicide and was committed to the facility in 2018, CNN has reported.

The judge ordered that she be placed in a group home with supervision.
