U.S. Border Patrol agent David Maland, 44, was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Vermont, about 20 miles south of the U.S.-Canada border.
The shootout left Maland and one suspect dead, while a second suspect was injured and taken into custody.
The FBI is investigating, and the suspects’ immigration status has not been disclosed, Fox News has reported.
The incident occurred shortly after President Trump’s second inauguration, amid rising concerns over increased illegal entries at both northern and southern U.S. borders.
