Mississippi officers accused of shooting a mother in the head during a car chase

After over two years, two Mississippi Capitol Police officers, Michael Rhinewalt and former officer Jeffery Walker, were indicted for aggravated assault in the shooting of Sherita Harris, which left her with severe injuries, including partial facial paralysis and memory loss.

The officers claimed they opened fire after Harris’ friend, Sinatra Jordan, shot at them during a chase, a claim Jordan denies.

No gun was found in Jordan’s car. Harris, who has filed a $3 million lawsuit, expressed relief at the indictments, which mark a rare move by the state Attorney General’s Office to charge police officers, NBC News has reported.
