President Trump signed an executive order to overhaul the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), following complaints from him and other Republicans about the agency’s disaster response.
The order establishes a task force, the FEMA Review Council, to recommend changes to the agency.
Trump has hinted at possibly eliminating FEMA, although only Congress can do so.
The task force, which will include homeland security and defense secretaries and private experts, will report recommendations to the president, Axios has reported.
While many experts agree on the need for reforms, governors may resist taking on more responsibility for disaster response.
