US Border Patrol Agents Exchange Gunfire With Mexico Drug Cartel

U.S. Border Patrol agents near Fronton, Texas, exchanged gunfire with suspected drug cartel gunmen from Mexico.

The incident, which occurred near Fronton Island in the Rio Grande, resulted in no injuries.

The island is a disputed territory between Texas and Mexico.

The suspected cartel gunfire has escalated in recent years, particularly under President Trump’s administration.

The gunmen reportedly fired while illegal immigrants were being smuggled across the river, though the immigrants did not make it to the U.S, Newsweek has reported.

Authorities, including Border Patrol, Texas state troopers, and the Starr County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene. Texas Governor Greg Abbott deployed additional forces to the area.
