102 snakes removed from homeowner’s garden in Sydney

Living in Australia means encountering snakes is common, but a Sydney homeowner got more than expected when 102 were found in his garden.

David Stein noticed a few snakes in a mulch pile and called Reptile Relocation Sydney for help.

Snake catcher Dylan Cooper discovered 102 red-bellied black snakes—five adults and 97 newborns—after digging through the mulch.

These venomous snakes are known to give birth in groups, but witnessing so many at once is rare.

One removed female gave birth inside a containment bag, and the entire removal process took about three hours.

Stein called at the right time, as the newborns were ready to spread throughout the neighborhood.

Initially spotting only a few, Stein later realized the snakes had relocated within the mulch pile.

His wife researched and found that females gather to give birth, prompting them to call professionals, CNN has reported.

Though the experience was thrilling, Stein was relieved once the snakes were gone.

The reptiles will be released into a national park.
