Over 100 people rescued from floodwaters in Southwest Virginia

Heavy rains in Virginia triggered severe flooding, leading to over 100 rescues, mostly in Richlands, Tazewell County.

Around 60 people were evacuated near the Clinch River, and shelters have been opened for displaced residents.

In Buchanan County, a family was rescued by neighbors using a boat after floodwaters reached their home.

High winds have made power restoration difficult, and emergency crews are now preparing for an incoming winter storm, WVTF has reported.

Residents compare the disaster to the historic 1977 flood.
