A third death has been confirmed from a fiery multi-vehicle pileup inside an Interstate 80 tunnel in Wyoming.

The crash involved 26 vehicles, including 16 semi-trucks, and sparked a fire that severely damaged the tunnel.

Wreckage and fire-related toxins delayed rescue efforts. Authorities are investigating the cause, and prosecutors may consider criminal charges.

The tunnel remains closed, but partial reopening is expected by Wednesday, NBC News has reported.

The crash occurred amid hazardous weather conditions, with slick roads reported in the area.
