Two Virginia Beach police officers were shot and killed during a traffic stop late Friday night, authorities confirmed.

The department assured the public there was no active threat but provided few details as the investigation continues.

Rep. Jen Kiggans expressed condolences, urging prayers for the officers’ families, CBS News has reported.

A news conference is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
