Macron says deadly knife attack in eastern France an ‘Islamist terror act’

A 37-year-old Algerian-born man on France’s terrorism watchlist carried out a stabbing attack in Mulhouse, killing a 69-year-old Portuguese man and wounding several others, including police officers.

The suspect, who shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attack, was arrested at the scene.

President Emmanuel Macron called it an “Islamist terrorist act” and vowed to continue fighting terrorism.

French authorities had attempted to deport the suspect, but Algeria refused to cooperate, France 24 has reported.

Three other people were also arrested in connection with the attack.
