French President Emmanuel Macron and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer are visiting Washington this week to persuade President Donald Trump not to abandon Ukraine in its war with Russia.
Macron has criticized Trump’s statements aligning with Russia’s narrative, while Starmer aims to act as a bridge between Europe and the U.S.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s sovereignty in peace talks.
Their visits follow Trump’s criticism of their handling of the war and come after Macron hosted a crisis meeting of European leaders, the Associated Press has reported.
Both leaders stress that American and European interests align, warning that allowing Russia to take Ukraine would have broader consequences.
