A Georgia deputy will not face charges for fatally shooting Leonard Cure, a Black man wrongfully imprisoned for 16 years, during a 2023 traffic stop.

Authorities say Cure resisted arrest and grabbed the deputy’s throat before being shot.

His family argues the deputy used excessive force.

The deputy, previously fired for misconduct, remains employed, the Associated Press has reported.

A federal lawsuit against him and the sheriff’s office is ongoing.
