Mohammad Sharifullah, accused of helping plan the 2021 Kabul airport bombing during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, appeared in court on Wednesday.
Charged by the U.S. Department of Justice for supporting a foreign terrorist organization, he faces life in prison.
Sharifullah, a member of ISIS-K, allegedly helped prepare the attack that killed over 170 Afghans and 13 U.S. service members.
He also admitted involvement in other attacks, including a 2016 bombing at the Canadian embassy in Kabul, the BBC has reported.
Sharifullah remains in custody until a formal detention hearing.
