Suspected cause of Long Island wildfires was a resident making s’mores: Police

A New York resident accidentally sparked a massive wildfire while trying to make s’mores in their backyard, authorities said.

Using cardboard to start the fire, embers spread due to strong winds, igniting over 600 acres of Long Island’s Pine Barrens.

Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency as firefighters battled multiple blazes, with two volunteers injured, ABC News has reported.

Officials believe the fires were accidental but are still investigating. Look, I love s’mores too, but I ain’t gonna burn down Long Island for one!
