Incoming Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen also denounced Trump’s comments, emphasizing Greenland’s desire for independence from both the U.S. and Denmark.
Trump, citing national security, suggested sending more U.S. troops to Greenland, but NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte declined involvement.

Concerns are rising over Trump’s interest in the island’s strategic location and natural resources, prompting Greenland to seek stronger ties with Europe.
