Israel targets what it says was an Islamic Jihad command center in Damascus

An Israeli airstrike hit an apartment in Damascus’ upscale Dumar neighborhood, targeting what Israel claimed was a Palestinian Islamic Jihad command center.

The apartment had reportedly been vacant for years, and a Syrian housekeeper next door was seriously injured.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu defended the strike, citing national security, while a Palestinian Islamic Jihad spokesperson denied the location was a militant base, NPR has reported.

Syrian authorities have not commented, though Israel has recently intensified airstrikes in Syria.
