5 people dead in massive car crash in Austin, driver charged

Solomun Weldekeal Araya, 37, has been charged with five counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault following a deadly 17-vehicle crash in Austin, Texas.

The accident, which occurred on Interstate 35, resulted in five fatalities, including three adults, a child, and an infant.

Eleven others were hospitalized.

Emergency crews responded quickly to the chaotic scene, which spanned about a tenth of a mile, ABC News has reported.

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the incident.
