D.C. Press Breaks 140-Year Tradition in Snub to Trump

At the annual Gridiron Club dinner, Washington journalists broke a 140-year-old tradition by refusing to toast President Trump, instead raising their glasses in support of press freedom.

This came after Trump and key White House officials skipped the event.

The tensions were further highlighted when Maryland Gov. Wes Moore joked about Trump’s ties with Russia, leading Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll to walk out, the Daily Beast has reported.

To close the evening, organizers showed videos of past Republican presidents, including Trump’s 2018 appearance, which starkly contrasted his current relationship with the press.
