Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized both Republicans and Democrats on Thursday, calling for a Democratic Party that “fights harder” for working-class Americans.
She emphasized the need to vote for leaders who stand up for the people.
Her comments, made during a tour with Sen. Bernie Sanders, reflect growing frustration within the Democratic Party, especially after a recent battle over government funding.
Sanders also criticized the wealthiest Americans and Republican efforts to cut vital programs like Medicare and Social Security.
The rally is part of Sanders’ “Fighting Oligarchy” tour aimed at energizing Democrats to adopt a more populist approach ahead of the midterms, CNN has reported.
Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders will continue their tour with stops in Arizona and Colorado.
