Former UFC champ sentenced to 5 years after shooting man who allegedly molested his relative

Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez was sentenced to five years in prison for attempted murder after a 2022 high-speed chase in which he fired at a truck carrying a man accused of molesting his relative.

Though prosecutors sought a 30-year sentence, the judge acknowledged the case’s complexity, granting Velasquez credit for time served, meaning he may spend about a year in prison.

The district attorney condemned the act as a “vigilante shooting,” while Velasquez’s defense emphasized his character and circumstances, NBC News has reported.
