Evacuations in California as huge wildfire rages through 1,000 acres

The Silver Fire in California’s Eastern Sierra has burned 1,000 acres and forced evacuations in multiple counties.

The blaze, which started Sunday near Highway 6 in Inyo County, remains zero percent contained.

High winds have hampered firefighting efforts, grounding aircraft.

Authorities have closed a 30-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 6, but no injuries or structural damage have been reported, The Independent has reported.

The cause is under investigation.
