GOP senator: Trump ‘wasn’t advocating’ for third term

Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) said Monday that former President Trump was not advocating for a third term when he discussed a potential 2028 run, emphasizing that such a move would require an unlikely constitutional change.

Trump, in a weekend interview, claimed there are “methods” to extend his presidency, including a scenario where Vice President J.D. Vance runs and hands over power.

He did not elaborate further, The Hill has reported.

Amending the Constitution would require significant congressional and state approval.
