Parachutist doing BASE jump hits cliff, dies, authorities and witnesses say

A 47-year-old man from Entiat, Washington, died on Sunday in a BASE jumping accident in central Washington.

The man was parachuting when his chute failed to fully open, causing him to spin uncontrollably and crash into a rock wall.

He fell about 650 feet to the ground and suffered fatal injuries.

Witnesses reported the incident, and the Chelan County Sheriff’s office confirmed the man’s death at the scene.

BASE jumping, which involves parachuting from fixed objects like cliffs, is considered a high-risk activity, CBS News has reported.

This fatality follows a similar incident last year at the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
