An air traffic controller, Damon Marsalis Gaines, 39, was charged with assault and battery after an incident at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Thursday night.
The FAA placed him on administrative leave pending an investigation.
The arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny of the airport following a January mid-air collision and a recent close call involving a Delta Air Lines plane and military jets, CNN has reported.
