DOJ to seek death penalty for Luigi Mangione in CEO Brian Thompson murder case

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, charged with the December murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City.

Describing the killing as a “premeditated, cold-blooded assassination,” Bondi emphasized its shocking nature and its impact on public safety.

Mangione faces federal charges, including murder and firearms offenses, stemming from Thompson’s killing outside the Hilton Hotel, CNBC has reported.

The Department of Justice labeled the act as political violence, highlighting its premeditated nature and the potential danger it posed to bystanders.
