A viral video of an AI robot sculpting a marble statue has sparked outrage online, with many questioning why AI isn’t being used for more practical purposes like curing diseases.

The video, shared by Monumental Labs, shows the robot carving a Renaissance-style sculpture of St. Joseph, which triggered criticism from art lovers who felt it undermined the value of human creativity.

Despite Monumental Labs’ attempt to clarify that the robot only roughs out the shape before human sculptors complete the work, many viewers still felt that AI’s involvement in art was a step too far, the Hindustan Times has reported.

Comments ranged from concerns about the soul of art to calls for AI to focus on more pressing issues.
