Drug dispensing robot hailed as ‘ground-breaking’

A new robotic machine, REMEDY, is set to revolutionize access to urgent medication in Dolgellau, Gwynedd.

The first of its kind in Europe, the machine will allow patients to collect prescriptions outside Dolgellau Hospital after a teleconsultation with NHS 111.

This is a major benefit for locals who previously had to travel up to 50 miles to access pharmacies when closed.

Dr. Rebecca Payne, a GP involved in the trial, called it “ground-breaking” and noted that it fills a significant gap for those in rural areas.

The machine stocks common medications like antibiotics and inhalers.

Clinicians can remotely authorize prescriptions, and patients use a pin code to collect their medication.

The machine, a joint project between Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Bangor University, will undergo a two-year trial, the BBC has reported.

Locals, including Jane Jardine and Llinos Rowlands, have praised the innovation, especially for its convenience for older residents who struggle with long trips.
