Senate GOP approves framework for Trump’s tax breaks and spending cuts

Senate Republicans approved a multitrillion-dollar tax and spending cut framework early Saturday, despite opposition from two Republicans, Susan Collins and Rand Paul.

The vote paves the way for a tax cut bill, which President Trump has called central to his agenda.

The package includes tax cuts that Republicans argue will prevent tax hikes for most Americans, but Democrats accuse it of benefiting the wealthy while undermining safety net programs like Medicaid and Social Security.

The plan also allocates funds for Trump’s mass deportation efforts and military expansion, the Associated Press has reported.

The framework now heads to the House, where debates over the details, including tax breaks and budget cuts, are expected to continue.
