A 17-year-old nonverbal autistic boy, Victor Perez, was critically wounded after Idaho police officers shot him within seconds of arriving at a reported domestic disturbance.
Perez, who also has cerebral palsy and intellectual disabilities, was holding a knife when officers opened fire, striking him multiple times.
His leg was amputated and he remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Video of the incident raised public outrage, with critics questioning why less-lethal options weren’t used and why no de-escalation efforts were made, CBS News has reported.
The case is under investigation by the East Idaho Critical Incident Task Force.
