Karenna Groff, the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year and former MIT soccer star, was among six people killed in a plane crash near Copake, New York, on Saturday.
Groff, a neurosurgery student at NYU Langone, died alongside her partner James Santoro—who planned to propose this summer—and four family members, including her parents, both surgeons, and her brother.
The plane crashed during a missed landing attempt, descending rapidly with no distress call.
The NTSB is investigating, ABC News has reported.
Groff was a standout athlete and aspiring neurosurgeon, remembered as part of a brilliant and loving family.
