Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is urging Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate the arson attack on Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence as a possible antisemitic hate crime.
The attack occurred during Passover, shortly after the Shapiro family hosted a Seder.
The suspect, Cody Balmer, allegedly cited pro-Palestinian motives and expressed intent to harm Shapiro.
He faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and terrorism.
While the local DA has not filed hate crime charges, Schumer and others point to the suspect’s comments and timing of the attack as cause for federal scrutiny, ABC News has reported.
Bondi condemned the attack but has not committed to labeling it domestic terrorism.
