Jury convicts a California judge of second-degree murder in his wife’s shooting death

Southern California Judge Jeffrey Ferguson, 74, was convicted of second-degree murder for fatally shooting his wife, Sheryl, during an argument at their Anaheim Hills home in 2023.

Ferguson claimed the shooting was accidental, but jurors found him guilty after hearing evidence, including a text where he admitted to the act.

He also faces a gun enhancement charge and up to 40 years to life in prison at his June sentencing.

The former prosecutor and judge had 47 firearms and over 26,000 rounds of ammo at home, the Associated Press has reported.

His defense plans to appeal.
