A Georgia deputy was killed and another critically injured when a motor home driver, James Blake Montgomery, opened fire during a traffic stop on Saturday evening near Augusta.
Deputies had stopped Montgomery to serve a domestic violence protective order when he initially appeared cooperative, then shot at the officers with an automatic pistol.
Deputy Brandon Sikes was killed, while Deputy Gavin White was shot in the face and remains in critical condition.
Montgomery was later found dead in the motor home, which contained pipe bombs and other firearms, CNN has reported.
Investigations are ongoing, and Governor Brian Kemp expressed condolences for the fallen officer and prayers for the injured deputy.
