Florida lawmakers passed a bill that would effectively ban fluoride in public water systems, with the state House voting 88-27.
Though the bill, SB 700, doesn’t mention fluoride by name, it restricts certain additives in water and now awaits Governor Ron DeSantis’ signature.
If signed, Florida would become the second state to ban fluoride after Utah.
Supporters argue it’s unnecessary and costly, while opponents warn it will harm low-income families who rely on fluoridated water for dental health, NBC News has reported.
Major health organizations continue to support fluoridation as safe and effective.
