Israel wildfires spread near Jerusalem, drawing national emergency declaration

Wildfires near Jerusalem have prompted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare a national emergency, warning the flames could reach the city.

High temperatures and strong winds have fueled the worst fires in a decade, injuring at least 23 people and forcing evacuations from multiple communities.

The military, firefighters, and rescue teams are working to contain the blazes, with international aid requested.

Authorities suspect arson may be involved, as one person was arrested, CBS News has reported.

Major highways have been closed, and Independence Day events requiring fire services have been canceled to focus resources on the crisis.
