Activists from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition say their ship The Conscience was hit by drones in international waters near Malta early Friday, with the group accusing Israel of the attack.
The vessel, aiming to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza, had planned to carry humanitarian aid and included climate activist Greta Thunberg among its supporters.
A fire broke out on board, but all 16 people aboard were reported safe.
The ship remains stranded, damaged and without power. Israel’s military said it is investigating, the BBC has reported.
The incident comes amid growing international criticism of Israel’s blockade on Gaza, which has left humanitarian aid severely restricted.
